In order to become a volunteer at École St. Matthew's School, applicants must review the NLSchools Volunteers in Schools Policy and NLSchools Guidelines for Volunteers. Once these have been reviewed, applicants must complete the following and submit to school administration:
ÉSMS Coaching Agreement (if volunteering as team coach) - See Also MATT'S COACHES' CORNER
Additionally, the following declarations and/or certificates are required before volunteer activity may commence:
Volunteers in low risk settings must complete a Criminal Offence Declaration (COD) prior to commencing volunteer duties and on an annual basis after that. [A Certificate of Conduct is not required for low risk volunteers.]
Volunteers in medium and high risk settings must complete a Certificate of Conduct, including a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to NLSchools prior to becoming a volunteer, and every second year after that. A Criminal Offence Declaration (COD) must be completed in the year when a Certificate of Conduct is not required.
Please be advised, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has launched a new online application process for Criminal Record Screening Certificates and/or Vulnerable Sector Checks.
Those who have outstanding applications are urged not to re-apply. The new system simplifies the application process and reduces wait times. Applicants may still be required to attend in person for fingerprints as part of a Vulnerable Sector Check and will be advised as part of the application process.
Volunteer applicants still must present a fee waiver request letter containing the following information:
● Dated within six months of application
● On company letterhead
● Have the applicant’s full name
● State they are a volunteer
● Signed by an agency official
PLEASE SEND A REQUEST FOR A WAIVER FEE LETTER TO allisonnorth@nlschools.ca.
PLEASE NOTE: The applicant will now receive completed checks for digital download with two-factor authentication. It will be the responsibility of the applicant to share it with the school. Letters will not specify the school name and will look different but will contain all of the same information you are familiar with seeing. Requests for volunteer purposes will include a watermark indicating “not for employment purposes”.
