We are grateful for the cooperation of the vast majority of drivers in our parking lot for arrival and dismissal procedures. During both periods of significant activity, adults trained in lot procedures help users understand the proper flow and use. A staff member or community volunteer wearing a safety vest is present to assist with our Kiss & Ride and crosswalk, and to move traffic during both morning and afternoon periods. Any disrespectful behavior towards these valued members of our school community will be addressed by School Administration and/or the RNC.
During morning arrival, it is important that you do not get out of your car to assist your child. The staff on duty will assist your child in getting out of the vehicle. Your child’s backpack should be with them in the car to ensure a timely exit. Please try to seat your child on the right side of the car if possible. If you wish to assist your child, please park in a spot in the lot to do so. It is important to remember that the Kiss and Ride lane is one lane only, therefore no vehicles should be passing the Kiss and Ride lane if you drop your child off in the parking lot. You still need to ride in the Kiss and Ride lane to exit the parking lot. As well, please ensure that you walk with your children on the designated crosswalks to ensure safety.
At dismissal, please note that idling in the lane waiting to pick up children impairs other vehicles from safely exiting onto Cowan Avenue. If a vehicle is asked to move to avoid obstructing line of sight for those disembarking the lot, they are to comply courteously and without issue as per notes 3, 5, and 7 of the Works Services and Transportation Act. Under no circumstances should drivers make u-turns in the entrance of the parking lot.
With our collective attention to these matters, safety and respect for all members of our ÉSMS community are optimised.
